3rd Annual Summer School in Computational Immunology

Dates: August 11-15, 2008

As part of the NIH-funded PRiME (Program for Research on Immune Modeling and Experimentation), we are proud to announce the 3rd annual “Summer School for Computational Immunology”. Like all biological systems, the immune system acts across multiple scales involving complex interactions and feedback, from the molecular interaction of receptors and ligands to the systemic inflammatory reaction to disease. Computational modeling provides a framework to integrate observational data collected from multiple modes of experimentation and provide insights the immune response in health and disease. The goal of this summer school is to introduce graduate students, post doctoral fellows, and faculty to computational modeling of immunity.

The summer school will take place at Yale University School of Medicine August 11-15, 2008. It is intended for early computational biology graduate students, and experimental biologists who desire an introduction to computational modeling techniques and their applications to problems in immunology. No prior experience in computational modeling is necessary. Several broad topic areas will be covered by expert faculty:

• Gene expression analysis and data mining
• Deterministic modeling
• Stochastic and agent based modeling
• Model fitting and parameter estimation

Each of the modules above will combine lectures and hand-on computer labs, and will be motivated by a group project to be developed throughout the course. The final day of the summer school will include a symposium on “Systems Biology of Innate Immunity”.

Participation in the summer school is competitive but will be free to those accepted. A number of scholarships are available to cover travel, room and board.

Application Information:

Applications for the summer school are now closed.

We invite you all to participate in the one day symposium- "System Biology of Immunity" which will take place at Yale on the 15th of August. We will discuss cutting edge examples of the impact and scope of systems biology on the study of Immunity.

Speakers will include -
• Ziv Bar Joseph (Carnegie Melon University)
• Matt Hale (Stanford University)
• Timothy Ravasi (University of San Diego California)

• More to come...

The symposium will end with a reception and student poster session

People who wish to attend should RSVP by August 1st to Anne Marie Berrios (annemarie.berrios@yale.edu).

Further questions regarding the school should be addressed to Uri Hershberg (uri.hershberg@yale.edu).
